I think Murakami would laugh at your interpretation here lol! The barn's just a really basic symbol that is just ambiguous enough for the protagonist to miss what it signifies - barns that nobody will notice have have been burnt down because they are not connected to anyone symbolise people whose murder will go unnoticed because they too have no real connection with other people.
